Week Three Day 3: Advanced Story Selection

Back to Course Home

Before we look at advanced story selection, please take ten minutes today to carry on storing story ideas in Evernote.

Storing ideas is an easy task to let slip. You will make things easier for yourself by regularly storing ideas in Evernote. Please re-visit week 1 if you need a refresher.

Don’t wait for me to ask you for a story before you start your research. The professional approach is to have a bank of story ideas prepared in advance.

Advanced Story Selection

Today’s video looks at advanced story selection, drawing on Christopher Booker’s book The Seven Basic Plots.

This video was originally part of a webinar I did so I’m sorry about the webinar control panel, which gets in the way slightly.

Things to do

I strongly recommend picking up a copy of Booker’s book The Seven Basic Plots. (Amazon UK, Amazon US)

Please note this is a big book! I suggest scanning it on a first pass, and re-reading properly if you find the content as interesting as I did.

There are no specific to-do actions for today.
